Software Development

Software Development is where developer work lives: projects, each with a kanban board of tasks (bugs, features, tasks, improvements and epics) in columns like To do, In progress, In review and Done. Tasks can be linked to cases, so whoever answers the requester can see how the fix is coming along, and hears when it is done.

It comes with the Software Development plugin. If you don't see Software Development under Plugins in the sidebar, the plugin is off; an admin turns it on under Settings → Plugins.

Who can use it

Needs the Software Development plugin. No role in the desk is needed: access is given per project.

WhoCan
Anyone who works in a unit of the organizationCreate a project there, and become its owner. Administrators can create one in any organization.
A project's Project ownerEverything in the project: settings, columns, fields, access, roles, archiving; delete any task.
A project's MemberCreate, change and move tasks, plan and run sprints, comment.
A project's ViewerRead the board and tasks, comment and watch.

Projects

Software Development in the sidebar opens the list of projects you can use, starred ones first. The number next to Software Development is how many open tasks are assigned to you.

Star a board to pin it

The star is next to a project's name, on its card in the list and at the top of its board. A board you star is pinned in the sidebar under Software Development, by the board's name, and goes when you unstar it; the sidebar changes at once. Pinned boards are listed by name.

Stars are your own: starring a board doesn't pin it for anyone else. A board you can no longer use, or one that is archived, isn't pinned; the boards you haven't starred are on the Software Development page.

New project

New project asks for:

  • a name and a key: 2–10 capital letters or digits, like WEB. Tasks are numbered by it: WEB-1, WEB-2 …;
  • what it starts from (below);
  • who can use it: business units to connect now (see access). You can leave this for later.

[!WARNING] The key is unique in the organization and can't change later.
