Contact sign-in and My requests

Contacts sign in with Sign in at the top right of the portal. There are no passwords:

  1. They enter their email address.
  2. They get a six-digit code and a sign-in link by email. The email is branded like the portal's unit.
  3. They use either.

[!NOTE] The code and the link work for 15 minutes and only once, and five wrong codes use the code up.

  • The portal gives the same answer for every address, so nobody can find out who is a contact. When the portal's unit only takes known contacts, only known contacts get a code.
  • Someone who signs in for the first time becomes a contact, linked to an account if their email domain belongs to one.
  • A sign-in lasts 30 days and works on every portal of the same organization at the desk's address. A portal on its own domain has its own sign-in, because browsers keep the cookie per host. Sign out ends it.
  • Signed in, the form doesn't ask for a name or email address. It says who they're signed in as, and the request is theirs.
  • To stop guessing, one IP address can ask for 10 codes per 15 minutes, and one email address can get 5 codes an hour.

My requests

My requests lists the signed-in contact's cases in the portal's unit and the units below it, most recently updated first, with reference, subject and status. Each one opens the requester's case page, where they can read and answer the conversation, and add or remove People in copy: others who get the replies and messages by email and can answer by email (see In copy). New request takes them back to the front page.
